I wonder if JR is using the proper "SAE" correction factors on the dyno or going with the "Standard" correction factors that most of the aftermarket industry uses because of the higher net HP numbers it ("Standard" correction) produces?

    Greg

FYI: DIN correction factors result in even higher results than "Standard".

Though JR as a company has pretty much left us out to fend for ourselves, Moss Motorsports is the only place that has ever helped me. They helped in a very timely manner and Kevin and Shawn have been extremely helpful, no that didn't fly out like some Top Fuel programers but they helped. I am satified with my setup and what JR sent me and everytime I read about some turbo guy or nitrous guy bitch about their motor, or really bad performance, or even better yet No customer service at all it makes me happy. I have just short of 20k of good and relatively trouble free (Mooss motorsports took care of the problems) miles. I just hate to see peeps totally bash JR, even though I hear they have some country assed mechanics in CA that don't know WTF they are doing biggrin

Yeah I met Shawn awhile back. He seemed ok. I kinda disagreed about his rugnes about Endyn, however they are its competitor. The worst most unproffessional person at JR is Oscar (stupid little pus*y who hides behind close doors, and relies on hi BS rep, and stats, and the other stupd person at JR I've encountered is KEITH! Was a fu**ing narrow minded, stupid ass tech/machanic! I have never met such a asshole in my life. After acouple of bad E-mails from him, he later appoligized for his rude conduct, by telling that he was jut frustrated, etc... Yeah OK! I'm sorry but at my company, and mst others, if you treat a customer like that, and talk crap to him, you would be fired! All I wanted was a stupid ass $80 pulley that they claimed never existed in all of JR.

Everyone at Moss Motors and JR except Shawn are a bunch of motherfuckers. They are real nice to you when you except whatever they say as fact and just hand over your credit card and let me charge away.

Mike, At least you got an apology from Moss, I never even got that.

Thats cool about what you said, however here's an example.
My friend with the 97 JRSC ITR thats gets it worked on by the same guy as me, had his JRSC done at Jackson. At the time, he was one of the very first JRSC type R's. In fact he even had them install the H2O system, etc... Anyways, when they dyno'd his car, it was said to produce around 210+whp. So he was happy, and drove home (6+hrs). Anyways, down the line, he felt his car was running bad, so he went and had it dyno'd at The Program (Sear Point Raceway). They showed him that he was only hitting in the 180's! So felt bad, and took it back to JR. Well, JR did there magical work again, and got his car to hit around 209whp. So then he brought it back up here, and dyno'd it at my place. Well, he hit 184whp or so! WTF! So after many hrs of tuning, he got hit car to hit in the 190's with tons of tuning, mods, and work. At the moment he's running a 8psi pulley, with lower compression. He hits around 215whp. Yet for some reason his boost gauge is reading only 6psi! All JR will say, it thats its because of the type R's strange cams. Um, ok....
Anyways, I'm sure JR has helped a few people, and have been able to show some killer work, and stuff. However, it appears that the majority (95%) of the people get screwed by them. I'm just glad we have people like you guys, that have battled it all, and are able to help us where JR lacks.

While I'm not impressed by JR as a company in general, and I've not particularly enjoyed most of my interactions with them.... I have to say that they've been very good to me about replacing belts, bolts, and pulleys that have needed it. It took a little coaxing, and I was admittedly a bit irked that those parts needed replacing to begin with, but hey- they were shipped promptly, free of charge, and fixed the problem. Goes with the territory.

As for you type-r people...and I know I'm going to get it for this...you started with the wrong platform if you wanted to build a car and tune it. The car I drive is called a GSR, that's what it was when I bought it. It's a much different beast now than it was then. If I were a manufacturer it would definitely be called something different than a GSR and would sit elsewhere in the product lineup. When I go down my list of mods at this point, the stock GSR that I drove off the lot several years ago is little more than a memory now. It was a good platform from which to build the car that I wanted. I increasingly hear more and more people bitching about their type-r's. It's highly tuned to be what it is, not anything different. *shrug* I knew I was going to SC the GSR when I bought it. I new I wanted to build it how I want it, tune it how I want, etc. Part of the reason I bought a GSR instead of an R. I ate a blown R on the highway the other day and actually wound up having coffee with the guy. He lamented that he wished he had just bought a GSR to begin with. I laughed and reminded him that at least he owns a collectors car. wink

I would love to have an R, but I'd leave it stock, put a cover on it, and take satisfaction in knowing that I own once, while I drive the hell out the SC-GSR.

    Flame on! wink

I have to agree with Javin here...

NO company will ever be perfect. Everyone has their good days and bad days: I myself have treated customers unfairly on occasion because I was human a took my bad day out on them.

Here is my two cents on this:

I bought a JR Supercharger just before NOPI '98. I began installing it just TWO days before the NOPI show began. I had not even test-driven the car before the first wave of cars showed up in my parking lot for the Super Street tour... I just jumped in the car and drove toward Atlanta. I was having horrible detonation problems... so bad that I could not stay in the throttle. At the first fuel stop, I scrambled around for a timing light to help tune some of the pinging out. It was better, but far from perfect. So, when I got to NOPI, the first thing I wanted to do was voice my frustrations to a JR rep... so I meet this guy named Oscar. After telling him what my problems were, he simply asks "Where is your car" ??? I said, "Why" ??? He says: "Cause I want to work on it" !!! So, I take him out to my car and he does some tuning... turns out that the damn POS Gude ECU is the root of the problem and after switching it out, the car runs just fine.
The bottom line here is that Oscar Jackson worked on MY car... he rolled up his sleeves and got dirty for me... so that I would be happy with his product !!!

This meant so much to me that I immediately became a dealer. I like companies that take good care of me... because then I can take better care of MY customers... people like you guys here.

Lastly, when comparing dyno numbers... don't forget that Oscar is a racing legend... a champion in this field. He has probably forgotten more tuning tricks than most of us here know. He is capable of getting every last drop of HP out of a car sitting on his dyno. I have NO doubt that if you could take your own car out to his dyno, and have Oscar tune it, you would probably be within a HP or two from the numbers that he posts on the website.

Consider this: Acura Integra GSR's vary in their 1/4 mile times by as much as 3/10's of a second. This means that the HP outputs of these cars varies slightly. Does this mean that Honda/Acura is full of sh1t when they claim that the GSR has 170 HP ??? Certainly not... however, motors will vary about 3% (+/-) in a production vehicle... and so will a production Supercharger kit.

Yep, all of the reasons I'd love to have one. And all the reasons I would probably leave it un-modded. Honda did such a nice job to begin with.
